**Coffee Shop Barista**

Independence, Missouri Minimum Experience **Entry-level** Compensation **$15.00** **Overview**:

Community Services League is opening BlendWell Community Cafe in Northwest Independence as the extension of our mission to make a positive impact in the communities we serve. BlendWell Community Cafe is a social entrepreneurial venture that will have a coffee shop and community space to serve as a catalyst for collaboration, conversation and connectivity. We are hiring for Barista positions to deliver products and services to our customers, and create an environment that promotes creative collaboration and community building.

**Responsibilities:**

The BlendWell barista team will work with the manager and volunteers to drive day-to-day operations. You will be responsible for producing high-quality products, providing excellent customer service and maintaining high standards for quality and community building, based on the guiding principles and house rules of the cafe. Specific areas of responsibility include:

**Production:**

* Ensure that all drink recipes and procedures are followed, maintaining the highest quality and consistent service.

* Efficiently produce products to meet customer demand.

* Ensure that all food offerings maintain the highest quality.

* Understand the menu and be able to discuss core products, menu options and new or seasonal offerings to customers.

**Service**:

* Greet all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develops a rapport with customers to deliver a positive experience.

* Verbally receive orders and enter them into the POS system accurately and efficiently.

* Process payments through the POS and count back change accurately for cash payments.

* Work collaboratively with the service team to produce beverages and serve other items.

* Answer telephone calls in a courteous and friendly manner including, but not limited to, giving store greeting, directions to store location, and receiving and filling customer orders.

* Answer customer questions regarding menu items and options.

* Offer products and services to compliment beverage orders to increase sales.

* Consistently deliver efficient, friendly service even during busy times.

**Environment**:

* Routinely clean the coffee service area, floor, windows and equipment.

* Keep the BlendWell Community Cafe clean, including seating areas and restrooms.

* Assist in the stocking and ordering of weekly shipments.

* Report potential safety hazards to the manager on duty.

* Report all employee accidents to the manager on duty.

* Inform the manager on duty of any operational inconsistencies.

* Implement opening and closing procedures as required based on schedules.

**Qualifications:**

* Experience in retail food operations with preference for coffee shop service.

* Understanding of social services and the role of BlendWell in community development.

* Proficient on a computer; familiar with software programs including POS systems, business operations and social media.

* Must be able to work a variable schedule, including weekends, evening and special events as needed.

* Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.

* Must have effective problem solving/decision making abilities.

* This position will require frequent standing and use of hands and arms.

* Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and frequently bend and twist from the waist.

* Frequently required to use hand and finger motions, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms.

* Must be able to adjust vision to both day and night lighting, and be able to focus on distant and close-range projects, capable to work with hot beverages, and work with sharp objects.

* Must obtain food handlers permit prior to starting work.

A BlendWell Barista is expected to work well with others as part of the CSL team that includes staff, volunteers, interns, and board members to help CSL achieve its mission: To assist communities in reaching their potential by providing immediate relief to people in need, assessing their situations, and providing solutions that lead to economic stability.

Pay: $15.00 per hour.

**Hours/Schedule:** Part-time schedule with variable hours based on the operating hours established for the successful operation of the cafe and responsible coordination with other staff members.

**Education/Experience:** The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 3 months of relevant experience or demonstrate the ability to learn and succeed quickly.
